The EU Centre in Singapore, together with EURAXSS Link ASEAN, Nanyang Technological University and SEA-EU-NET, held a workshop on Friday 24 January 2014 to highlight the various European research funding opportunities available to researchers based in Southeast Asia. This event attracted more than a hundred researchers and post-graduate students showing the interests for international collaboration in research, science and technology.

The event was launched by Ms Maria Cristina Russo, Director for International Cooperation, Directorate- General, Research and Innovation, European Commission. Ms Russo spoke briefly about Horizon 2020 – the new EU research and innovation funding programme- and introduced the various research and funding areas to members of the audience. Horizon 2020 is the main mechanism by which Europe funds research and innovation activities both within Europe and beyond, where international cooperation is a key element of this programme. With a budget of €80 billion, the programme will run from 2014 to 2020.

Representatives from the various participating research and funding agencies from Germany, France, the UK and Austria also introduced their funding and cooperation schemes and highlighted some of the research networks that linked researchers from ASEAN and the EU.  The day’s workshop ended with a practical advice seminar by Professor Andras Dinnyeson on the Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions (MSCA) fellowship for researchers.

You may find the presentations of the various research and funding agencies in the links below.
