Still the “pivot”: Russia’s self-conception and view of the euro crisis as perceived in public opinion and the Rossiiskaya Gazeta, 2011-12

The EU Centre has published a working paper by Barnard Turner: “Still the ‘pivot’: Russia’s self-conception and view of the eurocrisis as perceived in public opinion and the Rossiiskaya Gazeta, 2011-12.”

Using largely primary Russian sources from the country’s main newspaper of record, the working paper reflects on Halford Mackinder’s influential and disputed 1904 lecture, “The Geographical Pivot of History,” and assesses its current geostrategic pertinence in the light and context of the “EUrocrisis.”
